SmileBASIC is an app that allows you to program and create your own games and apps in a programming language called SmileBASIC. It's a sequel to Petit Computer, which was a DSiWare app. Someone managed to recreate Mega Man 2 in Petit Computer, for example, and since this is the sequel, the possibilities are endless!

I'm definitely buying Petit Computer 3 when it releases over here! I loved using PTC2, and I have some ideas for games I can't wait to create in PTC3. I'll also buy the Wii U version whenever that releases. I've already bookmarked pages for Japanese programs I'm going to download the moment I get PTC3. You guys have made some amazing looking games and apps that I can't wait to try out!

Any news for North America yet? I'm still so excited for SmileBASIC!

I was just wondering if you had any updates regarding SmileBASIC releasing in North America. I'm really looking forward to using SmileBASIC, and I can't wait to be able to use it! Do you think it will be ready soon, or does it still need some more work? Anyways, thank you for such a great app! I've been looking at all the Miiverse posts and it looks like there is a lot of awesome stuff you can do!

I think it's probably going to be $10, but no one's sure yet. The American website doesn't have a price listed yet.

you just need to use your knowledge of the language, math, and logic to figure out how to put it all together, and there's nothing quite like that moment when you figure out how to do something that's been stumping you for a long time!

(People have also created programs and things to allow you to import files from your computer into the game.) Once you get the hang of it, creating games is a ton of fun! I just love the satisfaction of seeing a game slowly come together as I add more code, and fixing all the bugs that pop up is fun too. I almost think of programming as a sort of puzzle game. You know what you want the game to do,

The sprites in the first one are limited to 8bit color palettes (I think it's 8bit, each sprite can have a 16 color palette and each game can load 16 palettes at once) but this new one doesn't have that limitation. It comes with some built in tools for drawing backgrounds and sprites, etc. that you can use in your games, as well as a ton of premade sprites to help you get started as well.

Yeah, it's pretty different than a simple level editor or something like that. And it's definitely a slower, learning experience. You start out with the "Hello World!" program, and as you read tutorials, check the manual, and analyze others' code, you slowly figure more and more out. Sadly, neither of these games natively support 3D, although that hasn't stopped people from making very basic 3D...

So yeah, I'm really excited for this! I've already got a bunch of ideas for games I want to try and make once it releases!
