Other than that, if you're interested, I recommend checking out the wikia for the original petit computer. Alot of references/tutorials/resources still apply to this new one. For instance, one tutorial taught me how to code MML...which I hope I wont have to do in PTC3...because MML is a nightmare! xD
to see what they did and if there are any tips you could learn. Make separte programs for the specific purpose of finding out how one thing works. For example, you can make a program that is focused around sprite movement. Take notes if you need to.
Well, this is coming from a programming novice, so take whatever I say how you will. You might actually have more experience than me. I only had a year of Java @ the end of highschool and the little practice I had with PTCmkII.
I just recommend easing into things. Spend time figuring out what does what. Focus more on the "what" versus the "how," at first. Analyze the samples as much as you can
Yeah...seems like they've changed that. If you want to examine a sample, run it in the samples folder, exit it, and ,from the home menu, go to the program creator. The sample will be loaded in Program Slot0.
I will say this: Everyone starts at the bottom. I'm not really an experienced programmer myself; I just had the previous version of this program and fiddled around with it.
This new program is both easier AND more difficult to learn.
So, to properly answer your question, it's hard to make, at first. The more you learn, the easier it becomes.
Trust me, you'll learn something new every second with this one. With Petit Computer mkII (previous version of this), you pretty much had to teach yourself.
For example, there was not a simple way to make something fade from one color to the next in mkII. I managed to figure it out on my own, but...
So far...im drooling. Everything, with the exceptions of the added content, is relatively the same as PTC mkII (Thankfully). If I can make the game I started in mkII, I'll be happy!
WELP, I have it now! I need to do two things immediately! The first...cry in a corner because I didn't get much out of mkII before this came out...the second...TAME THE BEAST! :D
Petit Computer mkII had one major flaw...it assumed you were already an experienced programmer and offered little to no teaching tools for the BASIC newb. Everything I learned in PCmkII I learned through the wiki or by myself( You pretty much had to teach yourself... ) I PRAY that Petit Computer 3 fixes that problem, as this a completely different beast compared to mkII...
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS THING SINCE SPRING!!! I waited...and waited...and waited...and when I finally decide to spend the money I was saving, THEN IT DECIDES TO COME OUT! ARGH!
Also, crud. It's here, but I haven't made much progress with MK2...
