As you may have heard, Miiverse will be closing down on November 8th of this year. Ever since dataminers found out about the hidden message stating that Miiverse can't be accessed due to it being shut down, I knew it meant that Miiverse would be ending soon. I thought it would at least have another year of life before it did, but unfortunately, that's not the case.

If they would just spend 5 minutes replacing Miiverse with an actual way to take screenshots... Oh well, I guess we'll have to live with a broken icon on the home menu for all eternity.

I think they'd remove the icon after a while (maybe a few months after the discontinuation of Miiverse). Having an icon just sitting there for no reason doesn't really make sense. But the icon is really the least of my concerns, I just hope that Nintendo changes their minds about discontinuing Miiverse. Seriously, it's only been up for 5 years, and a lot of games use its features.

I heard someone contacted Nintendo support and they said that they might change their minds due to a lot of people suggesting that they do so. But that's a big might.

Well, they did remove the Nintendo TVii icon from the Wii U Menu when that service ended, so it might be a mixed bag whether the icon will be removed or not.

it was good while it lasted. but im glad most of my friends are on sbs, as ive been on miiverse for like a month and most of my friends are on sb community, and theres a thing called smilebasicsource.

I guess everyone who wasn't signed up for SmileBASIC Source will have to in order to share their programs (if they live in America or Europe, otherwise they could upload them to wiki.hosten.jp). However, I did hear that the developers of SmileBASIC might be making their own community for SmileBASIC. If so, they should combine their community with SBS's!

It would never be the same though. We'd have to start from scratch, with an entirely new system. Besides, if there was going to be one, it would probably only be for the Switch. I don't think there is going to be a new social network from Nintendo though, they even said that they have no plans for one.

The Swicth has links to different social networks, so I think they want their fans to get away from their own social network and want them to use more popular ones. Although Twitter and Facebook are more popular, they don't have the same features as Miiverse, and posting from games is difficult.

two corrections to htv04's posts: the japanese program database and wiki is at wiki.hosiken.jp, not 'hosten' and data mining does not refer to cracking and finding information, but to pattern analysis in large data sets. it's only used as a 'softer' term for reverse engineering and because journalists are idiots.

@dfrost If it's Nintendo we're talking about, they have lots of profit, especially from the Switch. I just think they're closing it down due to wanting to focus more on the Switch rather than their other products.

The servers also cost money. Why waste money on a service thats on a failed console? They should be focusing on getting more 3rd party games on the Switch.

also, the nintendo network is becoming more like the xbox & playstation networks. It will be a paid service, now. This should be a big moneymaker for nintendo! ;)

I know the servers cost money, but Nintendo has a lot of profit, so there should be no problem keeping the server running. And Miiverse is on the 3DS as well, and that console was successful, so why discontinue the service if that console uses it too? A lot of games utilize Miiverse, so shutting it down will make a big difference for those games.

I've heard that they've had around 40 billion dollars last year, and that number probably went up with the Switch sales. I don't think money is the problem, but rather Nintendo is putting more focus to the Switch, and wants to slowly move away from other consoles. I still think they should reconsider their decision and keep Miiverse running, and add it to the Switch.

For all the people looking for a new home to post your keys. There is a smartphone app called Amino. It is a social network. One of the sections of Amino is called SmileBASIC Amino. There rairly is any activity right now, but if you need a place to tell the world your program keys, there you go.

The most popular place to post your keys for SmileBASIC is SmileBASIC Source, so that's probably why the Amino didn't have a lot of activity.

Nintendo would suffer from "oppertunity loss" By supporting the wiiu/mv because by supporting new tech, they get more money. Economically, It makes sense. They could (and will be) making a lot more money. They didnt even profit from the wiiu, because the revenue went into production/development.

Honestly I have mixed feelings of miiverse. It all went downhill as soon as the mods got stricter and the 30 posts per day limit was added

@Random guy, Correction, it has other social medias that you can post a screenshot on, but you can't look at other peoples posts on the social medias on the switch. It is nothing close to miiverse, so don't make out like the switch has a replacement for miiverse.
