I've decided that after this post, for the most part, I will have one play journal for a couple of illustrations from Smile Basic at a time as to not irritate the coding people of the community. So if it looks like I'm not posting but you notice the comment section of my most recent post has increased, it might just be me posting in the comment section. Thank you.
Beautiful picture! Great attention to detail, as always! Every pixel is carefully placed.
…And I like your color choices.
BTW about Play Journal, an alternative I took is to start a Discussion, label it some thing like "Mika's SB Art" and then post art in there (be SURE to include your Screenshot in each post!). That also makes your art easy to access from your Profile.
Just a thought
It's basically the same idea as yours, but a Discussion makes it so people won't have to sort through any unrelated posts to find your art (they still can though, if they want to!). It does, however, come with the disadvantage that it won't be noticed as easily. But, we who know your system will check back regularly. >:)
Actually
that's a good point, in a journal, people don't have to see my art unless they click it, although I don't know how to make the access easier since MV doesn't have a discussion tab (when closed)
Yeah… Discussions is just how I do it, I wanted to organize 'Squid Party' in an out-of-the-way spot, just for people who wanted to read it.
Using Play Journal and "commenting" more art under your post is a good idea, but in neither Journal nor Discussions does a comment add onto your list of Posts. :\
I say, try it your way! If it works out, great! :)
I'm pretty anecdotally sure that they don't care because you're only in the drawings. Not in the main posts. I think it's worth it to keep making new post, because someone else will probably stumble upon what you have done, and be inspired.
Yeah, I don't think you're being intrusive at all. If anything, I'd think they'd love to see your drawings in there.
[Is the only person who prefers Daisy over Peach]
@Mizu
well… the thing is, a couple of guys showed signs that the actually care that I'm drawing in this community. If I did so less, I think it would bother them less too, & I'm really self conscious about it. I love drawing, I just don't want to bother people with what I like to do, it's kinda a thing of mine. It's mostly because other people aren't doing the same thing that I'm nervous about it
I don't think they have the right to make you self-conscious. And I'm pretty sure that they're jealous. That's honestly reason enough to keep doing what you're doing. Being that you're causing neither physical nor mental harm to these [explatives], I don't see any logical reason for you to stop. You may think you have one, but there are none. Not a single one.
Drawing IS an intended use of the program. Coders who get annoyed with artists using SB within its intended purpose need to back off. But they won't.
Mika is being a peacemaker here, by leaving the place where the troublemakers are. Don't waste good art on people who don't want it, but at the same time, don't feel threatened by them. If they don't like your art, they don't have to look at it.
↓
You are very considerate of them. They should be considerate too - people like me, who don't care about coding, still have to sort through all kinds of techno stuff for each good picture we find from a skilled artist like Mika. We don't complain about them, because they're not abusing the program.
But neither are you.
Do what you feel is right, Mika.
@Tintin
I guess part of the reason why I like her, is because I don't ever remember seeing her playing the Damsel-In-Destress role (but she probably has somewhere) To me she comes off as a bit country and tomboyish, not too respectively "princessy" but still royal enough to be a good ruler.
the daisy doesn't seem so delicate
@Mizu
I'm not stopping, it's just that I'm trying to compromise, because reasons ó v ò
but I think if they complain with my current idea, I might seem more rude < v <;;
@Daniel
You know, you have a way with words. I spent several minutes trying to think of how to reply but I can't really. Thank you. I haven't quite figured out my "right" though.-
I believe Daisy's debut was in a very old (I'm talkin' black n' white) Donkey Kong game. I know Mario had to save her at least once.
I like her cuz she's different too. I wish they'd make a game for all the side characters to be involved in like her and Waluigi.
-But when I actually start understanding, I wanna show them that I don't not just plan to draw using this game, but I plan to make games like they do too, it's just my mind hasn't gotten there yet so I haven't gotten there yet either.
xD it's fine, I changed their appearances a little, so it's understandable
@Mizu
you didn't have to ; v ;
it's just something I'd been worried about for a bit. They're not pressuring me, it's just I kinda felt like I was taking away from them. I don't think it's such a big deal that the devs would have to know ó v ò; but thank you.
@Daniel
true words
even about those Mario games. The last Mario game I "seriously" played might've been on the SNES(orasimilarconsole)
Somehow I ended up telling you guys when i didn't mean too
;;é x è , thankyou for listening to what i had to say.
I forgot to mention All rights to the Mario characters and franchise belong to Nintendo.
^ v ^
@Tintin
that'd definetly be interesting o v o
I'd love to learn more about characters like Birdo, or how Princess Peach became a princess of Toads. Like did you know Birdo was actually male? I think that's kinda interesting
You're welcome. (^-^)
It's fine. I'm certain that you took nothing from them, that they themselves weren't already lacking. Being that "art" is half of every game in existence, you have every right to post art that could be used in a game. Whether it be your drawings, or two-frame pixel characters, it's all game related in this program. As long as you keep drawing, I and everyone will be happy.
@Tintin
the even more confusing thing is that Birdo also doesn't have a gender < v > (it's debated but was never claimed to be female, or something like that)
As far as Birdo, in the manual to Mario 2, I'm pretty sure it was labeled "Birdetta", but I know for a fact that it said he was a boy who thought he was a girl.
I'm pretty sure "Yoshi" is a girl name too, and "he" lays eggs, which is kinda' mechanically impossible if he's a boy. I guess Yoshi and Birdo are having a gender crisis. XP
I dunno, I think of Birdo as female. People say it's a transgender thing, but I think Nintendo just messed up. (Like the Wiggler Wednesday typo on T!@#er) And the only reason Yosh' is associated with Birdo is cuz of his need of a partner in Spin-off games much like Waluigi/Toadette.
...I had Gameinformer Mags when the internet wasn't a thing, you see...
@Daniel
but I always thought of Yoshi as male xD? Then again in animal species, the one that stands out tends to be male… but this is a video game :v
@Tintin
that might be it, (excluding bowser and maybe DK) though the characters that start out as ladies also don't tend to get gender counters
Truth is, beats me. It doesn't have to make sense, in a world where plumbers stomp on walking mushrooms in process of retrieving a princess who was captured by a giant turtle (I mean, that makes good sense, right?), boy dinosaurs might as well lay eggs. :P
Doesn't matter, as long as it's fun, people will play it. XD
Yeah, I know. It was a lesser time when gaming was only marketed towards boys. Those characters where probably influenced by the transition to when they started encouraging girls to be gamers too.
Do you remember the GameGirl? A childhood friend of mine had that.
@Original Post
I just discovered that you can't set a screenshot from a Comment as your Profile Pic. It has to be posted as a Drawing or a Play Journal Entry if you want it as your Favorite Post.

@Tintin
you're joking; I didn't even know those existed. My first personal console was a GameBoy Color , and then a GameBoy advance. Never thought they'd try to make one of those … might aswell be called "GameChild" now
@Daniel
i know the pain, I wanted to do that too once, but you know
No joke. Featuring exclusively Barby-esque games about dressing up and makeup and whatever they assumed girls were into.
It's hard to think how different and 'silly' the world was not too long ago.
@Tintin
nooo, that's terrible ; w ;!
Why do they think that whenever a girl wants to play a video game, it has to be something similar to Barbie or Hello Kitty (both of which I regretably used to on GameBoy games for, but still)
then again, this reminds me of the time, somebody online questioned me because he claimed "girls don't play video games" < v >;
@Raxon
thank you ^ v ^
I actually use a lot of different programs (cause I like to experiment) but I usually use K2Kpaint by k2kkrm . She often updates the game, so you should check out her posts. Even though it's in japanese, it's easy to understand~
This is her most recent update

If you plan to use it, please spread it, because I appreciate that amount of effort she went to create such a well designed program.
This picture is great. You did such a good job with shading and colour. I'm always impressed by your art.
Don't let a couple of people run you off. Stand up for yourself and your art. If people were upset, they would let you know. There hasn't been a big outcry; there are just a couple of people grumbling. They aren't complaining on every post. Where would games be without great artists?
People were happy to help you with learning to program. If no one replied, I could see how you might think you were posting too much artwork. There were a lot of people giving you pointers.
But, do what makes you happy. Miiverse should be fun, or we're doing it wrong. I'll keep up on you art here and elsewhere.
I agree with Tin-Pai in that Birdo's gender identity likely got mixed-up at some point. I think Captain Rainbow makes Birdo canon? I don't know.
@RaxonXVI Thank you for being directly inspired by seeing Mikaharu's art!
One the subjectof "girl games". I don't know. I've played very few.

Hello there. I wasn't going to say anything originally, but seeing how some of the comments here seem awfully defensive about something that doesn't seem to happen, I guess it's worth leaving a comment about.
(cont.) This community has absolutely no problem with people posting their art. We've had many artsy posts, and we'll most likely continue to get them. Some people may think that your posts are the elephant in the room, since they usually attract a lot of attention. However, I can tell you that attention is well deserved and doesn't bring any negatives by itself.
That being said, the following that it brings can be a bit troublesome, specially since it don't seem to understand the essence of SmileBASIC and its community. It's not particularly problematic, since it seems to stay in your posts, but I digress.
I just wanted to say that we have no problem with your posts. However, keeping your art to a single post might actually be something worth trying!
@Oscar
< v >;; (Sorry, I'm naturally defensive. I don't meant to be though.) I think I might understand what you mean when you say "it doesn't seem to understand the essence of SmileBasic" considering my feelings when I make them; but I am considering keeping them to one post for the most part because of that 'understanding'.
1. I miss seeing your new pictures in my Activity Feed. :(
2. I love your two most recent pictures! Once again you've done amazing work, and THOSE DETAILS! You da bawss!
3. I posted this here 'cause I wanted to ask, do you want people to comment about your latest pics under your 'SB Illustrations' Discussion, or do you want the space reserved for your art (the way I do)?
@Daniel
sorry ó v ò; but you know…
Thankyou~ I never thought about it, so I guess I don't mind if people comment on it, since I doubt I'll get to the comment limit.
@Mizu
well the post was to attract the least amount of attention as possible, so < v >
but I did mention if you don't see me posting to my Activity feed, I might just be posting on the post itself.
@Daniel
oh gosh xD
@Mizu Gotta check Mika's Discussions regularly! You'll find new pics a lot.
@Mika What are your thoughts toward "Notifications" posts?
(people commenting under your post just so they'll get Notif's when you update)
It kinda' interrupts the flow of comics when people do it (I refer to *★Gυммı★*'s work).
Notifications posts?
Well I mean i guess I'm fine with it ASLONG as I'm not malong a comic and they give me a warning when they comment just so I understand it's not something to reply to.
Though I generally tell people if I don't want them to comment, worse case, I'll disable it myself if need be.
I feel pretty much the same.
Nobody has ever given me a Notif's post, and I hope they never do. I find it sorta disrespectful, honestly.
I figure, if people really care, they'll check your Profile regularly to see your new stuff. I check my pals' profiles almost every day.
I know I talk too much, I'll shut up now. :P
I gotta get offline, need my Z's before work. Thanks for talkin'! Keep up the great art work!
P.S. I found another user with a Mii similar to yours! XD
Her name is Cheese!
DintDobbs out.
@Daniel
Nah, you're fine xD
Hope work goes well tomorrow
Goodnight o v o !
Us Mii's with side-swept-to-the-left wavy hair are increasing our army ,:V !!
