Doing a Japanese crossword puzzle. Not really sure what a ''gakubi/rakubi'' or ''sukan/suama'' is though :/

You should read horizontally in both cases. One is "sarugaku". The kanji which indicates "monkey" is followed by "gaku". "Sarugaku" is Japanese traditional performance art. Another is "jinkou-kanmiryou". "Jinkou" is "artifical" and "kanmiryou" is "sweetener", i.e. it indicates "an artifical sweetener".

I'm sorry for lack of explanation! You can also read vertically in both cases. One is "rakubi". "rakubi" is the last day of a tournament of Sumo-wrestling. Another is "suama". It is a kind of Japanese mochi cake.

Hanzoさんご解説ありがとうございます。"Artificial 楽味料" はないと思ったので「甘」は下のマスだろう、それから消去法を使って「楽」は真ん中らへんのマスかなと予想してましたが、スアマ・サルガク・ラクビの読み方や意味がわからなかったので、自力でここまで解けてもういいやと思ってプレイジャーナルに成果を投稿したわけです。クロスワードパズルで辞書を調べるのはカンニングなので（笑）

漢字を普段使わない外国の方が、このような大規模な漢字クロスワードパズルを自力で解いてしまうとは、本当にに敬服致します。実際のところ「楽日」は日本古来の伝統に基づく言葉ですし、「素甘」は、ほとんどの日本人は、ひらがなで「すあま」と書きますので、外国の方が容易に解らないのは無理のないことです。
