Tip for those new to coding in general.

Don't bite off more than you can chew. Do small, simple projects that you can finish. So forget about pokemon, minecraft, etc...at least for now and work on guess the number and other text games to get started. Feel free to leave your own tips.

I definitely agree. Leave games like Minecraft/Terraria up to more experienced programmers (especially those more familiar with SmileBASIC (i. e. those who worked a lot with Petit Computer for DSi)). People like Calc84maniac, Discordstew, me, Levicel, Randomous, etc. are more experienced with this language and that's why you're already seeing 3D engines, Terraria, etc.

I'd add to this though that once you get comfortable programming it doesn't hurt to bite of a LITTLE more than you can chew. Don't shy away from a challenge for fear you are not yet good enough. If you can fully comprehend the scope of the problem you want to tackle and can handle a little failure every now and then you should try to push yourself cause you don't grow with easy stuff.

Though they are right for being a beginner. Get a few small projects under your belt first so you CAN learn to understand the problems you wish to tackle before attempting to tackle them.

Definitely agree with this. I experienced this with PTC2. Its hard to try to not dive right in. Its so frustrating trying to learn a new language(currently learning C# and ActionScript), but when you do, its worth it(I can code a Pokemon game and Terraria with SmileBASIC).

forget 'guess the number' and other boring text stuff, but *do* start simple. start by displaying a sprite, then maybe making it move a bit. make a program that records a sound effect when you press a button, and plays it back when you touch the touchscreen. something simple but fun :)
