Better start with something small.

Try with a simple "Hello, world!" tutorial, it's a common first step in learning to code.

Isn't there a place that you can download files other user made? I thought that something like that was mentioned in the game description. I hope you have fun with it. I don't think you can mess it up too bad. You can always delete and download it again. I would think you could reset to the default settings somehow.

@Grizz I think it has something to do with this, but i haven't tried it yet. < v >; I just kept quitting and restarting because I kept accidentally pressing Y, triggering the font sprites and i didn't know how to get rid of them so i kept panicking orz

If you click on Download using public key you can enter a secret code to download other peoples programs. Try the code for bug squish in the attached image to see if you can make it work. After that you may want to head over to smile basic source the have a bunch of codes to try. There is also a few codes sprinkled around the smilebasic website. I rather enjoy solid gunner myself.

As for making your own games, I agree you should start small and begin with a Hello World program. Here is what to do. First on SmileBasic's front page click the "Create Programs with SmileBasic" button. This will bring you to a new screen that looks like a command prompt on Windows. In thre lower left are two buttons Direct, and Edit. Click the Edit button to bring up the text editor.

In the text editor type in PRINT "HELLO WORLD" Now click on the Direct button in the lower left to go back to the command prompt looking screen. Here, type RUN and the carriage return. This will run your program, and should write the text HELLO WORLD to the screen. From the code, print is the command for writing text to the screen, and you need the quotes to make the message a string.

Finally, to save your work, hold down the L or R shoulder button and click on the LOAD " button at the top of the screen. Then give your program a name and click ok. To open it again for further editing you would hold a shoulder button and click LOAD ", and select your program. If you want further tutorials, let me know. Maybe I can put up a youtube video or something.

Sorry, in the previous comment that first LOAD " should say SAVE ". The second one is correct however.

I knew something slipped my mind! @Stewart Thank you so much for taking some time to tell me how the downloading system works that really helped a lot! As for the "Hello World" thanks for helping me out with that too, I haven't gotten to it yet but I do plan to try it out

Not to be racist but I've never seen anybody who isn't white who is interested in coding. I don't have a problem with it, I'm actually quite happy. Have fun coding my friend, and don't be scared to make your own sprites as well.

@Superion no it's fine! You said it all politely, so I don't think I'd misunderstand and take it the wrong way ó v ò. Well, I guess you could say that I find it interesting that games and even the smallest of programs have to start off from somewhere.
