Remember that: 1.- Miiverse is ending in NOVEMBER, you have at least 2 months to publish it here. 2.- You can always ask for help on smilebasicsource.com. In fact, i strongly recommend you to make an account there and publish your projects on the site.

Yes, but the plane gimmick refers to the battlefield. Like a platform.

Because this is your first memorably big project, don't you think 2D fighting game is more than enough? Maybe after you finish making 2D fighter, you can learn what you did THEN implement 3D effects.

Many famous people start off with limitations and less knowledge of the languages. Remember: Yoshi was supposed to be in SMB1 but time/souces weren't enough yet still loved by many.

@Aaron It's been done in some games. On like sega saturn and stuff. @Trabajon you may have a point. But the plane thing isn't for right now. I admit I've been biting a lot more than I can chew. But how should I proceed? Make a test arena from scratch?

Yeah, I agree with Trabajon. Not trying to put you down, it's just a lot and it's already hard enough to make a 2d fighter. 3d movement never really added much for me IMO, it makes more sense in brawlers like Streets of Rage.
