After the War (tbd name) was finally won with the last nuke the earth started to have small earthquakes, at first we thought they were normal, then we soon realised that the entire earth had been shifting at an uncontrolable rate, in short this meant that the earth would soon be baren land because of the mixed atmosphere.

we did many simulations and after many days found that the nukes had caused the earths crust to shatter and caused the earths center to expand some ways outside the earth.
at this rate we estamate the earth will be dead in 1 year max.
the military has slowly gone into the space program in hopes of helping find a new planet to live on.
meanwhile scientists go to explore the many new materials.
*3 months later*
the earth is completely different, its now begining to create many tremors in the ground, we have relocated many people to the safest place on earth.
scientists have discovered a new material that can be used in ships, in is insanely strong and durable, nasa has gotten full power to build ships to go to a newly found planet, but it will take 4 months there and back.

there are many people to send but the military has decided to send all the youngest first, meanwhile scientist continue to find technological help form the minerals and many medicines are being tested too.
*4 months later*
the earth has been completely scattered and we have gotten the last of the food we could find.
there is much more but there is no time to go and search.
the ships will be
launched in one month.
*1 month later*
we are all on the ships now, they have sent everything possible so the ships are very full, I have been put on the material/food transport, so atleast I wont be too hungry..
before we left there were many reports of creatures attacking people, but that was probably just something to scare people into working harder.. the launch is beginning very soon.

so after a while the ship launches and this is where our story begins.
*cut*
the ships are all going fine but our ship seems to be having trouble, the pilot and military says that its normal but I can see that they worry.
the ship is making loud sounds from the engine so it could be just the weight of the ship.
*36 minutes later*
*massive explosion*
(will now take place of the player)
*captain*
the engine has just exploded! this is not a drill, get to the space suits asap!
(after going to go to them you get them)
*you as the player realize that you would be pulled to earth because of the distance not being far enough and go to see the size of the problem*
*after seeing that the main engine is completely destroyed you attempt to use the 2ndary engines energy to power the
shield, but it only buys you around 2 minutes of time, you scour the ship for any technology and find the escape pods, but you must be an extra 4000 feet down of you will be burned alive.*
*you decide to use the ships freezer where the food is kept and blow up the ice continuum drive (its something they made to make unlimited freezing for the food)*
*this in turn allows you to free-fall
to earth just long enough to use the escape pods.
you quickly grab all the supplys you can and are soon shot out of the ship in the pods.*
you were quick enough to fill the few pods with supply's, but sadly they were scattered across many location, but with the help of a useful tracker included to help people find the other pods you do have a safe way to track them.*
you are now stranded on earth, or as they now called it, "AfterWar". some of the ship have stayed to watch over and gather the last satellites.
you have an estimated 2 months before they leave for good.

Some problems you don't have to fix-
#1: If a tectonic plate broke (which, first off, seems completely impractical) wouldn't that lead to less earthquakes? If you think about it, The amount of energy required to crack a tectonic plate would probably destroy a fair amount of the plate itself allowing all of the plates to move around more freely and distribute their energy.
#2: If an explosion of that size were to happen, then a nuclear winter should probably take place at some point in the near future.
Otherwise, it's a decent story. I could be wrong about some things though...
Also, if we found a new planet it's not (shouldn't be) in our solar system. So it should take much longer than 4 months even one way. Unless they invent a faster form of space travel, or FTL.
Instead of the ship blowing up, how about there was a man who was bit by one of the oarkeis (weird spindly creature tall, maroon, and strong)?
The medics try to fix him, but he becomes rabid and attacks plus spreads the virus.
Now, you move from pod to pod; cabin to cabin, trying to escape the disease before you reach the designated planet.
