If you're looking to achieve perspective projection there, X2D=X/Z:Y2D=Y/Z so Z=Y/Y2D:X=Z*X2D and SCALE=1/Z Hopefully this helps!

Hehe, I accidentally made a weird inverse function 1/(1-ROW%/239). Not sure what I was trying to do there, but at least it accidentally turned out cool! It would make an EXCELLENT text scroller.

How about putting a sprite, a big looking up and when you press a the bg moves forward.

Actually, that went RIGHT. Mode 7 refers to the MODE, not the effect.

@Cris each line of the display is a 400x1 sprite, scaled horizontally. You really couldn't do this with a BG layer

So it wouldn't be possible for your program to load a bg map and have a sprite in the middle like Mario kart or f-neko(Japanese game, check smileBasicsource.com then go to resources, then go to games and programs list then find it)?

What he's saying is that you can't achieve the same effects with background tiles. It would be possible, just use SPPAGE to make the sprites use BG tiles. It would be limited, though. You wouldn't be able to rotate it very easily.
