Some problems you don't have to fix- #1: If a tectonic plate broke (which, first off, seems completely impractical) wouldn't that lead to less earthquakes? If you think about it, The amount of energy required to crack a tectonic plate would probably destroy a fair amount of the plate itself allowing all of the plates to move around more freely and distribute their energy.
