BASIC? Let me quote well-known Dutch computer scientist Edsger Djikstra: "It is practically impossible to teach good programming to students that have had a prior exposure to BASIC: as potential programmers they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration." Seriously, I'm sure people come up with cool stuff and it's relatively easy to learn, but gosh, it's an awful language.
