Tell your parents that yes it is a programming tool, but it is on the easier side so newbies to programming like you can start doing it yourself. You should give it a shot, I mean, wouldn't you want to make your own games? Programming is a wonderful & underappreciated art, but once you get into it you will understand.

What you need to do is have an ID associated for each hitbox. For every frame after it connects that the same hitbox ID is inside the enemy, have it pass the damage code. You can even just disable it for that particular enemy and it should still work either way with other enemies and only hit once. Something like that should do the trick & I plan to do the same once I get around to my colliders.

I think calling it a 'zelda-like' is a bit disingenuous. The only Zelda game that had a side-scrolling view was Zelda 2 & it was the least popular in the series. It's still very much a stretch to call this game anything like it.

Thank you for your input Kouyama, beginners should simply take into account that this kind of setup is not good for multiple button presses, but it's great for getting your game off the ground!

Very nice work in encapsulating a common game design pattern. This is an interesting use of your components. They are modules themselves, yes? "DO PROTO" is a new one to me, but seems very useful here.

Excellent stuff! I imagine it would help greatly with the feedback issue we are getting in my own situation. I have no doubt a bean powered fart ship is worth the debugging either. I would like to share my code, but the only way I can see me doing so with you privately is if we exchange email or you hop on the smilesource chat. I will stick around said chat in case you stop by.

Thank you very much both kouyama-senpai & Hanzo for your very helpful input! Yes, it looks like I will divide from largest to smallest as I have in the past ;c these hashtags are not as much of a shortcut as I was thinking, they just equal out to the raw values.

Is it possible to poll multiple buttons each frame using this method? In testing it, only the top conditional is registering meaning I've only access to the 'up' button. Thanks in advance for any advice!

It cannot be simply "HP-5" as Hanzo pointed out. My recommended changes: IF BUTTON() AND #A && SPHITSP(0,1) THEN HP = HP - 5 ENDIF
