The thing that makes RPG Maker... Uh... Effective, is it's use of events, half of the engine is just managing which events do what, each event with its own index that can be called from anything, RPG Maker runs on ruby, and ruby is a huge programming language I have a lot of experience with RPG Maker, and tbh it's not very good at all ... now Game Maker... Holy cow that's an amazing game builder!
