I have an idea

So I was browsing around on the internet when I got a really cool idea. To begin, it is commonly known that a 3ds uses infrared light as its method of communication. TV remotes use infrared too. So, what if a program could be created which manipulates the IR light to where it can control an appliance.

Not only that, but unlike a standard TV remote, you could control ANYTHING that uses IR light. What do you think? Is it doable?

On top of that, if high-speed manipulation of a 3ds's infrared transmitter is possible, you could possibly interact with actuall ds games that use IR light. This means you could interact and possibly do multiplayer with a game without even having it.

The Wii U Gamepad actually has a built in TV remote, including the IMPUT button. So, it would make sense if you could use a 3DS as a TV remote.

It's not possible to access the 3DS IR port from within SB.

^ except for circle pad pro, and that isn't controllable by SB.

But I have a japanese racing game for SB that has multiplayer.

What they said ^. Nice idea but you have no way of controlling or accessing the IR. Only way would be a hacked system, and it wouldn't be through SB.

Wait... does MP wireless use radiowaves or infrared? COULD we, in theory, send a list of bytes [in an undecided format] through MP wireless that simulates a signal from a remote? like, say 0010 means vol up. maybe we could use chr$(2), or a similar function, defined by us, to define the data before we send it. I know stuff like this is possible, because I know that in ti-basic, something ...

... similar has been done. the graphing calculator has a serial port on the bottom, and you can send data to other calculators using this. But someone got a great idea from this, and carefully wrote a string var. then, he sent the data through the port, and plugged in a 2.5 mm headset. he had played a sound file, in ti-basic. that is what I think of when I consider this problem.

Er... I'm not sure I explained it right. So, even though the IR port is not directly manipulative, if you found out what data created what pattern you could possibly control it INDIRECTLY.

So, the 3ds's multiplayer works based of this thing called "Infrared light" (Basically invisible light). This is also how petit computer shares files (By using infrared light). So, since they both use infrared light, could you possibly use petit computer to interact with real games? Does this make sense?

@D©Mr.something.... The 3ds uses Infrared light as it's method of communication. I think me and you get what I'm trying to say. Basically, even if you cannot DIRECTLY control the IR port, if you found out what data created what light pattern you might be able to figure out a method to INDIRECTLY control the IR port.

I believe multiplayer communications are through local wireless, not IR. IR requires line-of-sight between the IR ports.

You CANNOT CONTROL ANY OUTPUT FROM THE IR PORT. The only thing you can use the IR port for is the Circle Pad Pro, and that is limited to the O3DS line, and it ONLY RECEIVES INPUT. The IR port isn't powerful enough to function as a TV remote, even if you had homebrew.
