as your discussion Is closed now ill talk here. so there is a color on the sprite editor (the one that is usually black with an x on it or something..) this is the neutral color so its nothing at all, I am guessing you mistakenly used just black to fill it in or something idk.. anyways try filling the black around the edges with neutral also try changing the neutral color to something lighter to

see if it needs to be done first, this will change the color of all black backgrounds and honestly do nothing at all but just make it easyer to find.

About the menu, you could draw a colored box in the area that you want. That might help save some time.

Like, i know how but i never do cuz its a freaking pain! Hopefully Game Maker Studio 2.0 will make things a little easier--at this point thats all i need, but of course to buy it ill need $300 so.... :/ and i always procrastinate.
