How do you animate sprites?

ive been messing with sprites for 30 mins now and i cant figure out anything.

Have you looked at the sys/ex8techdemo source at all? load "sys/ex8techdemo" and then use the magnifying glass to find the label "@TESTSPANIM" and you can figure out what spanim can be used for and its different results from the demo.
