Maybe the c-pad should be used to look around in all directions while using left or right on the c-stick just makes you walk sideways There could be a + cursor in the middle of the screen that you gotta point at items and press a button to pick them up

Gotta say, I'm enjoying Magic Story. I can tell it's refurbished from the GAME2RPG game, and it feels a bit different from the source material, especially with the separate battle menu. I can't program, but at least I get to try a bunch of awesome free games :^)
