What is a program that will create a black and white checkered board pattern in the background? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

After seeing a Minesweeper-type program in the 3DS eShop, I thought "Wow. Someone is actually charging real money for such a simple game? How hard can it be to program?" Well, as it turns out, not very hard at all. Of course my version doesn't have fancy graphics etc, but it still functions well enough.
